59. Participle Clauses

We use -ing or -ed clauses to shorten sentences, usually when two actions happen at the same time or one follows another.

- "I walked down the street. I saw John." - -> "

down the street, I saw John."

- "He was shocked by the news. He cried." - -> "

by the news, he cried."

- "Feeling hungry, I made a sandwich." (Because I felt hungry).
